|| This course is an introduction to thought about disability studies in social, cultural and political contexts, specifically in the US context but, also including global cases. This course will explore the normative discourses around the body and the discourses and images that contest the dominant corporal normativity. We will think about the images in cultural production and ask how they affect our understanding of disability and difference. This course will discuss a series of questions related to the ways in which portrayals of disability are similar and different from portrayals of other categories of human difference (e.g. race, gender, sexual orientation).
